Publishing Opportunity for New Artists!
Hey guys! I want to spread the good news about my friend DeevElliott (https://www.deviantart.com/deevelliott)'s two new anthologies that will be strictly reserved for up coming artists here on DeviantART! :D If you're a new and aspiring comic artist looking for a chance to be published with a seasoned professional, this is it!
I've met Dave many times and he is always looking to help younger artists in need of a kick start! His current projects are detailed in this journal http://techgnotic.deviantart.com/journal/Dave-Elliott-An-Authentic-Citizen-384734344 along with lots of great advice on how to get into the publishing industry. His two anthologies and how to participate in

There is no cosmic law that states artists must suffer many long years and demeaning day-jobs before a window of opportunity cracks open just enough to hop on through.
Fellow deviant Brian Kesinger is a case in point.
His first “day-job” in 1996—he was hired straight out of his senior year of high school—was drawing Tarzan for Disney.
Brian stayed at Disney and he considers every day there a part of his ongoing education as an artist. He most recently worked on “Wreck It Ralph,” and has become active in the story department, where he
My friend shared this video to warn other artists about how she was taken advantage of, and I believe this is a very important message that every artist should hear.
I've lost count of how many times someone, be it a big corporation or an individual, have asked me to illustrate for them for free. It will always go something like this "You draw this for us, and we will include your name in the credits. That's good publicity for you!" as if such a pathetic offer holds any merit.
There was one specific case where a guy wanted to use my drawing as a book cover but didn't want to pay. He said he might print up to 50,000 books, so that's like an

How to advance the medium of colored pencils?
Always interested in how to advance the medium of colored pencils in this digital world of today. Here are some categories of where I think colored pencils still hold strong in regards to that specific subject matter and have a future in it.
Animal art-
Very strong, it is something people want and something people buy constantly. Have not seen many if any digital artist doing pet portraits. So the market is strong and some people are so talented at making pet portraits with colored pencils it is insane. So in the future pet portraits will always be one of, if not the strongest point in colored penc
Fan Art Law

t seems there’s nothing quite as dear to the hearts of many of our deviants as their production of fan art, and at the same time, there is nothing so knotted with legal and ethical headaches. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but in the form of fan art it has also become one of the most frustratingly complicated. At some point, the sheer volume of fan art around a single property may become so large that the issue rises to another level of scrutiny by the creators of the original work.
With this dynamic in mind, we thought the following panel that Josh Wattles, our Ad
Calling All Professionals and Organizations
DeviantART is getting a tremendous, positive response to our call for support for the application by DAdotART for the .ART domain.
We now have a special request for professional artists, art directors, creative directors, curators, educators and others employed directly in the arts to show their support in their professional capacities.
We also have a special request to members of the deviantART community who belong to organizations involved in the arts to submit an indication of support from the organization.
The idea of an address on the Internet ending in .ART is compelling to all of us in th

Birth of a New Category or Beginning of the End of Categories?

Just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be another “ism” on the art world horizon, what with the growing accessibility of all
art technique and technology rendering all the “schools of art” equally available and doable and therefore making impossible the dominance
or even existence of any current art “movement” … comes “suggestivism,” the “ism” best summing up what art is in our lives today, defined

Things you should never ask an Artist to do
I write this to not spark a debate or judgement, only to share my personal opinion and experience in hopes of benefiting you and offering insight to people thinking about hiring an artist.
Things you should never ask an Artist to do:
1. Free Work.
Do I really have to explain this one? :) You wouldn't walk into any other business offering a service and ask for free clothes or a burger right? No, you pay for them without question and they take a lot less creativity, time to make and cost a lot less. Why ask people to work for free on something you couldn't make yourself? If you believe in your vision, then I suggest find funding for it to
The art of storytelling is as boundless and diverse as the stories themselves. With the rise of the digital age and instant communication, story creators can now receive immediate feedback from the audiences. Sometimes, the audience will give critiques and demand changes to the story. Those of you in the gaming community will be familiar with the outrage over Mass Effect 3's ending, and those who love TMNT will know about the dissatisfaction over changing turtles to aliens. If so many people dislike something, should the creators reflect on the audience's critiques and make the necessary changes to please them, or stick to their original visi

The recently announced changes to the core mythos of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the backlash from fans over the ending to Mass Effect 3 have ignited an incredible discussion about the rapidly evolving “collaborative” relationship between producers and consumers of videogames, movies, and similar “products.” Now it’s exploded beyond the secure borders of top news publications, gaming and entertainment websites. Looks like this long-bubbling
